Edelweiss Cafe @ Penang

Edelweiss Cafe is the only Swiss restaurant in Penang. I`ve heard about this restaurant long time ago but don`t really have the time to search for it until we passed by the restaurant early this year during the CNY`s open house.

Then, I started to plan to bring my mum to the restaurant on her birthday but the restaurant was closed on every Monday, so, we postponed to plan to the weekend which is on last 2 Saturday. So, together with mum, my cousin, Woofy and me, we are there for dinner.

The entrance is nicely decorated with lots of greenery.

Upon entering, the interior are decorated with antiques.

Then, we ordered some of the restaurant specialties. And, this is the food that we ordered.

Appetizer- Salad with thousand island sauce

Cheese fondue
the combination of cheese and white wine which are imported from Switzerland. (RM 75)
Mum`s pork ribs.
nicely grilles ribs with special sauce (RM29)

Bratwurst sausage
similar with German sausage which can also be dipped in the cheese fondue (RM28)

Woofy's Rosti Mit Bacon and Egg
pizza-look-alike with sunshine egg and bacon and lots of onion (RM20)

And, the drinks that we ordered.

Woofy`s Spiced Teh Tarik Ice
tasted something like Teh Tarik but riched with cinnamon aroma (RM5.50)

Used to be mine but soon it became my cousin`s Camomile tea
its a flower tea - tasted like Camomile *hahaha*=P (RM 6)

Mum`s hot cappucino
at 1st, there`s a heart shape on top of the coffee but soon, it changed shape *haihz* (RM6)

My Madras coffee
tasted like normal coffee but its caffeine-free *theres the heart shape im talking about -cute eh?* (RM 6)

Then , me and my cousin wander about the restaurant and saw this cute deco.

Taken near the restroom area.

The price is abit steep but considered that its a Swiss cuisine and its for mum`s birthday treat, we dont mind to slurge abit. The total bill came RM 191.95 considered service charge and tax for 4 people.

Will definitely drop by again if given the chance.=)

CNY holiday!! (Part 2)

The continuation of my CNY holiday...

3rd day of CNY :

I spent my day at home as mum said that it was a bad day to visit relatives and also friends. This is because on this day , its known as " chek hau"(cantonese) where if you visit others, you and that person will keep arguing all year round.

4th day of CNY :

Spent most day at grandma`s house and as night falls, we went to downtown for CNY`s open house at Campbell Street, Penang.

So many people..wana walk also very hard..

The organizers were very thoughtful. they set up some booths that giving out free foods and drinks for the people.

Open house means got free food and drinks....
Some of the CNY`s tit bits and kuih...Got fried rice and bee hoon

Then, there is this booth where they displayed some stuff from the late 70s ...

Some of the very old old type of flyers..According to my parents, those are the cinema listings on show for the people around in the 70s. its like we looked up on the newspaper for movies and last time, they used to distribute the flyer with sypnosis. So cool...Ancient type of radio and "CD player" Hehe

As we walk further, we came across to this booth where they use red packets to make origamis..

Trishaw man and passanger...Look at those details...
Paper cutting using red packets...
Paper lanterns...

There`s other performances such as singing competition, cultural dances, lion dance that night.

5th day of CNY :

Went to dinner with my cousins and family at Seoul Garden, Gurney Plaza. Finally able to realize my cousin bro`s wish after delaying it for almost 1 year. Hehe...

The food...
and more food....
Soup...
Some part of the mess that we made...

Bill came at around RM 250 for 8 people...not too bad consider the environment and we`re not smelly after the dinner cause from the BBQ smoke...hehe

Its a fun dinner together before my cousin bro went back to Sabah....We`ll go again sometime in the future, ok, J??...=) cheh, as if he reads my blog...Haha...

Hungry Ghost Festival

This month is the month of Hungry Ghost in lunar calendar. Here in Penang, celebration for Hungry Ghost Festival is great, you can see lotsa temporary stages and tents being built all over the residential areas and town areas as well for the festival celebration.

The celebration of the festival usually lasts for 3 days, and some of them even longer, up to a week. During the first day, there will be a ceremony of inviting the God of Hungry Ghosts to the celebration venue. During the second day, foods and fruits will be presented to the God of Hungry Ghosts as a gesture to thank Him for taking care of the ghosts. After that, the foods and fruits will be distributed to all the members of the Hungry Ghost Festival celebration commitee of a particular group. At night time during the celebration period, a variety of activities and events will be held, such as prayers, singing competitions, concerts and many more. In the midnight of the last day of the celebration, a ceremony will be held to bid farewell to the God of Hungry Ghosts.

The God of Hungry Ghosts.

Foods and fruits that were presented to the God and being distribued to the members of the comittee.

Roasted chickens and roasted pigs.... YUMMY~

Shirts for the God.

2 weeks back, we witnessed the ceremony of bidding farewell to the God of Hungry Ghosts at downtown. We reached there around 11pm, and we did the prayers before we headed to a mamak stall nearby for a teh tarik session while waiting for the farewell ceremony to start. Usually the ceremony will start at around 12 midnight, but on that day, the people in charge "enquiried" the God and obviously He doesn't want to leave. So, we have to wait until the God agree to leave. 1 thing about the God is, if He doesn't want to leave, no matter how many people carry the paper statue of the God together, they just won't suceed to move Him. But when He agrees, 4 men can carry Him easily! Weird but amazing, isn't it?

Finally, at around 1am, the God agreed to leave. There comes the ceremony! Pixies after the jump:

Oh... Sudah mau balik liau...

The people preparing to send the God back..

Moments before "departure"..

Penang International Dragon Boat Festival

We went to the Dragon Boat International Race yesterday. It was held at Teluk Bahang Dam which stated from 31st of July till 3rd of August and yesterday was the grand final for each categories that those rowers were racing in.

It was a rather nice weather yesterday with occasionally cloudy and a bit of sun. Lucky for us as its not that hot. There, they provided the spectators with free shuttle buses as those who came by cars can park their car opposite the Taman Teluk Bahang and those bus will transport you to the entrance of the event. very considerate of those sponsors. *thumbs up for them*

See, they even provide bathing area for the rowers or contestants.

The main entrance and also the resting area for those contestants. And, oh, most of those young rowers are very handsome and very muscular. *drools* LOLZ
Along the way, we saw many teams exercising and practising their movement.

The kawaii japanese girls team.

The Penang boys team

After some walk, we finally reached the racing area. Saw many peopleand supporters there and not forgeting the main "actor" - the dragon boat itself.

Closer look on the dragon head

Then, we walk to the VIP stand area. From there, the view was better and we get to have some shades there too. =P

After each race, there was this prize presenting session.

The main trophy

The Canada team emerged as the winning team - the guys team

We were there for a few hours and before we left the event, there was this contestant from Canada who were having difficulties in breathing. he was then sent to the medical area for help. maybe due to the hot weather. Hope he`s ok by now.

I never been to a dragon boat race in my life and what im experiencing yesterday was a really nice day out for me.

*************

On a unrelated event, guess what we saw in the middle of those rocks? See anything there?

If you see carefully, you can see this :

The lonely phtographer. So pro.
